ENGALURU: Karnataka reported a spike in JN.1 cases on Tuesday with 74 fresh infections, leading the state government to decide that all Covid-positive people must henceforth isolate at home for seven days while all their symptomatic primary contacts should be tested.
Of the new cases, 57 are in Bengaluru. The state also reported two deaths attributed to Covid. A cabinet sub-committee, headed by state health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, will soon issue guidelines to curb the spread of the virus. Around 5,000 Covid tests are to be done every day.
Employees of government and private companies under home isolation will be entitled to seven days of leave. All home-isolated and general ward Covid admissions will be visited by doctors and staff from UPHCs and Namma Clinics. Those in ICUs will be monitored through tele-ICU from the state headquarters.
Currently, there are no restrictions on New Year celebrations or inter-state travel. Masking is mandatory for senior citizens and those with comorbidities, while parents have been advised not to send their children suffering from fever, cold and cough to school till the symptoms subside.
Karnataka will get 30,000 doses of Covid vaccines from the central government, which will be distributed to taluk and district hospitals, sources said.
