New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi "will become a dictator if voted back to power" and "there will not be any elections thereafter" said Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday, insisting that the Congress was the only party that could protect democracy as enshrined in the Constitution.
"PM Modi will become a dictator if you vote him back to power. They are trying hard to bring their govt back by hook or crook, they are controlling independent bodies like media, ED, Income Tax, CBI, and judiciary. Don't make him powerful, don't make him a dictator. He will become a dictator and there will be no elections in the future," Kharge said while addressing a State-level convention of the Congress leaders and elected representatives in Karnataka.
He urged the party workers to ensure victory of the Congress candidates in the Lok Sabha elections. "Otherwise PM Modi would grow stronger," he warned.
Kharge said he was confident that the party would win 20 seats in Karnataka this time.
Criticising the Centre for "freezing" the party's bank accounts, Kharge said it was an attempt to completely drown out the Congress. He alleged that BJP got money from electoral bonds from black money holders to whom the Central government returned favours.
