BENGALURU: The Indian national space promotion and authorisation centre (IN-SPACe) Thursday released an expression of interest (EOI) inviting private Indian entities to build and manage a space-based Earth Observation (EO) satellite system under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

Stating that the initiative marks a significant milestone in India’s space programme, IN-SPACe said it opens the doors for private sector participation in designing, building, and launching a constellation of satellites equipped with advanced imaging technologies.

Pawan Goenka, chairman, IN-SPACe, said: “This initiative by IN-SPACe and Isro aims to create a self-reliant, robust, and sustainable Earth Observation System catering to the growing demand for EO data. The upstream infrastructure of the satellite constellation with advanced imaging technology is expected to create significant downstream commercial potential, resulting in more competitive products.”

The proposal outlines a comprehensive scope for non-government entities (NGEs), including designing and building a constellation of satellites in Low Earth Orbit, equipping them with various sensors, launching satellites using Indian Satellite Launch Vehicles, monitoring spacecraft health, managing payload data download, and processing payload data to generate analysis ready data (ARD).

This EOI presents an opportunity for Indian entities to engage in all aspects of the space industry. Interested companies can find more information and register for the upcoming pre-EOI conference on Aug 8, 2024, by visiting the IN-SPACe website.
