In preparation for the final holy bath on Mahashivratri, February 26, vehicle entry will be completely restricted within the Kumbh Mela premises from 4 PM today. Additionally, similar traffic restrictions will be enforced across Prayagraj city starting at 6 PM to accommodate the large influx of devotees.
Authorities have taken these measures to ensure smooth crowd management and avoid congestion during this significant spiritual gathering. However, vehicles transporting essential goods will be allowed to operate during this period.
Official Guidelines for Devotees
The Mela Police have issued an advisory requesting devotees to follow the designated rules and cooperate with officials. To streamline the bathing process, pilgrims are advised to use the ghats closest to their entry points:
- Dakshini Jhunsi route: Arail Ghat
- Uttari Jhunsi route: Harishchandra Ghat and Old GT Ghat
- Pande Kshetra route: Bharadwaj Ghat, Nagavasuki Ghat, Mori Ghat, Kali Ghat, Ram Ghat, and Hanuman Ghat
- Arail sector: Arail Ghat
Devotees are urged to bathe only at their assigned ghats and proceed to their respective Shiva temples to conduct prayers, preventing overcrowding at major religious sites.
Exemptions for Essential Services
While general traffic restrictions will be in effect, the movement of essential services will remain unaffected. This includes the transportation of milk, vegetables, medicines, fuel, and emergency vehicles. Government officials such as doctors, police personnel, and administrative staff will also have unrestricted access to ensure seamless operations.
Crowd Control Measures
Considering the expected large turnout, authorities have planned strict crowd control measures. Pontoon bridges will be monitored and regulated based on density, and devotees are encouraged to minimize unnecessary movement. Officials have also advised attendees to promptly return to their destinations after completing their rituals.
The ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13 and concludes on February 26, is a once-in-12-year event and has already recorded an astonishing attendance of over 63 crore devotees and tourists. The Uttar Pradesh government has emphasized the importance of following these guidelines to ensure a safe and organized spiritual experience for all attendees.
With these traffic and crowd control measures in place, authorities aim to facilitate a smooth and spiritually fulfilling experience for the millions of devotees taking part in this grand event.
