Lucknow: Sumaiyya Rana, social activist associated with Samajwadi Party (SP), was on Sunday served a notice by the Lucknow police over her social media posts against Waqf Bill.
Issued under Section 130 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the notice asks her to appear before the magistrate's court on April 7 and explain why she should not be bound over to maintain peace for a period of one year by furnishing a personal bond of Rs 10 lakh and with two sureties of the same amount.
Sumaiyya, 45, is the daughter of noted poet late Munawwar Rana.
"The administration is filing baseless cases under questionable legal provisions and sending arbitrary notices to create fear among dissenters. I will challenge the notice in court," said Sumaiyya, who is also one of the spokespersons of SP.
Earlier on Apr 4, ahead of the Waqf Bill passage in Parliament, she was put under house arrest by the Lucknow police.
Police also sent notices to member of Samajwadi Chhtrasabha Mahendra Yadav and social activist Uzma Praveen.
