India is speeding up the launch of a spy satellite in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. EOS-09 satellite will be launched by ISRO aboard the PSLV-C61 mission in the coming few weeks, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh said. "Equipped with a C-band synthetic aperture radar, EOS-09 will be capable of capturing high-resolution images of Earth's surface under all weather conditions, day or night," he said.
Nearly 28 people - mostly Hindu men - died in the terror attack that took place Tuesday afternoon in Pahalgam's Baisaran Valley. Nearly half a dozen terrorists descended down mountains to corner a swarm of terrorists who were enjoying a day out in the open green space. Videos going viral online show terrorists shooting down tourists execution-style, after identifying them as non-Muslims.
PM Narendra Modi has vowed tough action against the perpetrators of the attack - which is the deadliest to strike the Valley in recent times.
"I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected. Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice...they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger," PM Modi said in a tweet.
India has taken a slew of counter measures in the wake of the attack, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty and shutting down the Attari-Wagah border.
Pakistan, meanwhile, has washed its hands off the attack, blaming India instead. Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said Pakistan has "nothing to do with it", and instead blamed the unrest in Kashmir and Manipur for the attack.
Intel inputs have, however, traced the attack back to safehouses in Pakistan's Karachi and Muzaffarabad.
Global leaders, including US President Donald Trump and China's Xi Jinping, have condemned the brutal attack, with a former Pentagon official even comparing it to Hamas' October 7 massacre of the Jews. India must strike back like Israel did, Michael Rubin said.
