The Border Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday night shot dead a suspected Pakistani intruder who had crossed over the India-Pakistan border near Gujarat’s Banaskantha district.
In an official statement released Saturday, the BSF said, “Vigilant troops detected a suspicious individual walking towards the border fence after crossing the international border."
"BSF troops successfully neutralised a Pakistani intruder attempting to enter Indian territory in Banaskantha district, Gujarat, on May 23, 2025 during night," BSF said the statement.
The statement added that the BSF personnel challenged the intruder and warned him to stop, he continued to advance. The troops then opened fire, killing him on the spot.
Further details about the identity of the intruder or the motive for the border crossing have not been released yet, as the investigation is underway.
Banaskantha, a border district with strategic significance, has been on heightened alert in recent weeks.
Security along the India-Pakistan border has intensified following the launch of Operation Sindoor, India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack last month that left 26 people dead, most of them tourists.
