India’s High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, has accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism both within its own borders and across into India, amid the recent spike in tensions between the two nations.
In an interview with Sky News, Doraiswami showcased a large image allegedly showing senior Pakistani military officials attending the funeral of militants eliminated by Indian forces during Operation Sindoor. Among those present was Hafiz Abdur Rauf, a US-designated terrorist and the brother of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar.
In the image presented by Doraiswami, uniformed Pakistani military officers can be seen standing beside coffins draped in Pakistan’s national flag, reportedly belonging to slain terrorists.
Holding up a photo during the interview, India’s High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, said, "Let me show you this photograph from yesterday. This individual here is Hafiz Abdur Rauf, a US-sanctioned terrorist and the brother of the founder of the banned group Jaish-e-Mohammed."
"Look closely behind him — those are Pakistani military officials. The coffins are draped in Pakistan's national flag. If you're giving terrorists state funerals, what does that say about your system?" he added, pointing to the image as evidence of Pakistan’s continued support for extremist elements.
The photograph, also shared during a press briefing in New Delhi, was cited by Indian officials as further evidence of Pakistan's long-standing state support for terrorist organisations, particularly by its military.
The development follows India’s recent retaliatory strikes under Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including the Jaish-e-Mohammed headquarters in Bahawalpur. These strikes were carried out in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians.
Hafiz Abdur Rauf, a key figure behind major terror attacks including the 1999 IC-814 hijacking, the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, and the 2016 Pathankot airbase assault, was highlighted by India's High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, as evidence of Pakistan's complicity in terrorism.
Doraiswami pointed out that in the photo, Rauf is seen with Pakistani military officials. The coffins of slain terrorists are draped in Pakistan’s flag, questioning the country’s support for such figures.
He also referenced the 2008 Mumbai attacks, where the evidence provided by India was either ignored or misused by Pakistani authorities to downplay their connections to terrorists.
This image was also shown by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a briefing, reinforcing India’s stance on Pakistan’s tacit support for terrorism. Misri stated, "Giving terrorists state funerals may be a practice in Pakistan, but it doesn’t make sense to us."
