Mohini Ekadashi 2025 Date and Time: Know When Ekadashi Tithi Begins, Parana Time, Puja Vidhi & Significance

Mohini Ekadashi 2025: In 2025, Mohini Ekadashi will be observed on Thursday, May 8. The Parana, or the time to break the fast, will be on the next day, Friday, May 9, between 05:35 AM and 08:17 AM.

What is Mohini Ekadashi?

Mohini Ekadashi is one of the most spiritually significant days in the Hindu calendar. It falls on the Ekadashi Tithi (11th lunar day) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) in the month of Vaishakha. Devotees of Lord Vishnu observe this fast with deep devotion and seek his divine blessings.

Parana refers to the ritual of breaking the Ekadashi fast. It must be done after sunrise on the next day, within the Dwadashi Tithi (12th lunar day). Breaking the fast outside this timeframe is considered improper.

It's important not to break the fast during the Hari Vasara, which is the first quarter of Dwadashi. Devotees should wait for Hari Vasara to end and perform the Parana preferably during Pratahkal (early morning). Madhyahna (midday) should be avoided for Parana unless absolutely necessary.

Who Should Fast on Which Day?

Sometimes, Ekadashi fasting is observed on two consecutive days. In such cases:

  • Smartha (householders) should fast on the first day.
  • Vaishnavas, Sanyasis, widows, and those seeking Moksha (liberation) are advised to fast on the second day.
  • Devout Vishnu bhaktas may choose to fast on both days for deeper spiritual merit and divine love.

The Story Behind Mohini Ekadashi

The fast gets its name from 'Mohini', the enchantress form of Lord Vishnu, who appeared during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean) to distribute Amrit (nectar of immortality) to the gods and outsmart the demons. Observing this Ekadashi is believed to help devotees overcome negativity and illusions (Maya), guiding them towards truth and devotion.

Mohini Ekadashi 2025: Puja Vidhi (Rituals and Worship)

On Mohini Ekadashi, devotees wake up early, take a bath, and perform Vishnu Puja with tulsi leaves, flowers, incense, and lamps. Bhajans, Kirtans, and recitations of Vishnu Sahasranama are common. Fasting is observed strictly—many go without water (Nirjala), while others follow a fruit-only or milk diet.

Mohini Ekadashi is not just a day of fasting—it's a day of cleansing the mind, body, and soul. Observing the vrat with full devotion is believed to destroy sins and bring peace, prosperity, and progress on the spiritual path.
