Karwar: In the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam and rising tensions between India and Pakistan, a concerning incident has come to light involving an alleged attempt by Pakistani agents to gather sensitive information about Indian naval bases.
According to reports, Pakistani agents, posing as officers from the Indian Air Force, contacted two personnel stationed at the Indian Naval Station (INS) Kadamba near Karwar. The callers, including women agents, tried to obtain classified details regarding Indian warships such as INS Vikrant, INS Vikramaditya, and INS Subhadra.
The agents specifically inquired about the current location of INS Vikrant and attempted to determine which part of the Arabian Sea it might be operating in. The calls were reportedly made from private numbers, and the callers falsely claimed to be from the Indian Air Force and its liaison units.
Authorities believe this was part of a “honeytrap” operation — a common espionage tactic — aimed at manipulating naval personnel into revealing confidential information.
Naval authorities have since issued warnings to their staff, urging them to remain vigilant and to refrain from sharing any information with unknown callers. Personnel have also been advised to be cautious of honeytrap tactics and to report any such attempts immediately.
