The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) received a bomb threat via email, prompting an immediate and heightened security response from the Ahmedabad Police. The threat was reported promptly by the GCA to local authorities. The Narendra Modi Stadium, which is set to host the Gujarat Titans vs Lucknow Super Giants match on May 14, is now under increased surveillance. This incident follows the recent relocation of the Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians match from Dharamsala to Ahmedabad, after the hill town’s airport was shut down due to military operations targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan.
According to police, the email contained a chilling one-line message: “We will blast your stadium."
The message was sent under the name “Pakistan JK".
Security teams conducted a thorough search of the stadium, inspecting the dressing rooms, seating areas, galleries, VIP boxes, media centre, and surrounding promenades, but no explosives were found.
Authorities are now working to identify the source of the anonymous email threat. According to Zone-2 DCP Bharatkumar Rathod, the email was sent using The Onion Router (TOR) browser and a Virtual Private Network (VPN), making it appear as though it originated from Germany or Romania.
DCP Rathod also noted that the threat may have been a hoax, and a formal investigation is currently in progress.
In the meantime, an FIR was being registered against the unidentified sender on Wednesday night at the Chandkheda police station as the report went to press.
