Pune: Two men were killed and another suffered injuries after a ready-mix cement truck hit a pickup truck from the rear on Pune-Mumbai Expressway in Kamshet around 3.30am on Saturday.
The Kamshet police identified the deceased as Ajay Yadav of Kurla in Mumbai and Afzal Murtuza Khan of Ganeshpur in Uttar Pradesh. The pickup truck driver, Rajesh Yadav of Kurla, lodged a complaint with the police. A case has been registered against the ready-mix cement truck driver.
Inspector Ravindra Patil of Kamshet police said, "The pickup truck and the ready-mix cement truck were heading towards Mumbai from Pune. The pickup truck's driver stopped his vehicle on the service lane after its tyre deflated. It was transporting hens to Mumbai."
All three men travelling in the pickup truck alighted from the vehicle. They were replacing the tyre when the ready-mix cement truck hit the pickup truck from behind. The two deceased men were found between the two vehicles.
Patil said, "The cement truck driver might have doused off, which led to the accident.
