In a recent candid interview, actress Shruti Haasan discussed her personal decisions and the reasons behind her decision to never get married.
Shruti gave fans a unique look into her personal life by sharing her very personal viewpoint on relationships, loneliness, and motherhood in an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia.
While Shruti stressed that she believes in love, loyalty, and commitment, she confessed that the very concept of marriage makes her uncomfortable. “I’m genuinely terrified of the idea of marriage,” she admitted.
“I’ve worked incredibly hard throughout my life to become my own person. The thought of tying that identity to a piece of paper feels frightening to me. I fully embrace the values that marriage is meant to symbolise, but I don’t feel I need a legal document to validate them.”
Shruti also revealed that she once came close to walking down the aisle, but the relationship ended due to incompatibility. “Yes, I was on the verge of marriage once. It wasn’t something that fell apart because of me—it just didn’t work. Incompatibility is a huge factor. Marriage isn’t just about two people; it’s about potential children, shared futures, and lifelong responsibility.”
On the topic of motherhood, the actress was equally honest. “I’ve always wanted to be a mother,” she said. “But I never wanted to raise a child as a single parent. I think having two loving, committed parents is important for a child’s development. That said, I have great respect for single parents. Maybe adoption is something I’ll consider—children are incredibly fascinating.”
Confirming her relationship status, Shruti shared that she is currently single and focusing on herself. “I genuinely love myself the most right now,” she said. “Often, people seek partners to fill a void caused by loneliness. But I’m learning to embrace solitude, not label it as loneliness. I want to be at peace with being on my own before inviting someone else into that space.”
In May of last year, Shruti announced that she and artist Santanu Hazarika had broken up. After dating for a while, the live-in couple broke up.
On the work front, Shruti will next be seen in the action-packed entertainer Coolie, which also stars Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, and Nagarjuna. The film, which was directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, will be released on August 14.
