Rohit Sharma came back in style to Team India after seven months in the series vs Australia. After the first match where he got out for just 8 runs, he came back with a patient half-cenury in the second ODI scoring 73 runs. He was at his fluent best in the final game, as he smashed 121 runs, hitting his 33rd ODI century. He slammed 202 runs in total, and even won Player in the Series. While Rohit himself confirmed that it was his final time in Australia, his childhood coach Dinesh Lad has more or less confirmed when the former Indian captain would retire.
In an interaction with PTI, Dinesh Lad said that his performances in the ODI series against Australia answered critics who were calling for his retirement because he was not performaning. He then informed that Rohit will retire after playing the ODI World Cup 2027, and is preparing for the same.
“This is a special moment. There were talks that he was not performing, that he should stop playing cricket, but he played two good innings in the last two matches, 75 (73) first and now 120 (121*), and has shown he is still a top player who’ll still contribute to the country," Lad said.
“The only secret is his self-confidence. That’s why he hasn’t retired. He wants to play the 2027 World Cup and only retire after that, and he’s preparing for that," he added.
