Army deploys monorail at 16,000 feet in Himalayas to boost food, ammo supply

The Indian Army's Gajraj Corps has introduced a game-changing innovation in high-altitude logistics with the deployment of an indigenous High Altitude Mono Rail System at 16,000 feet in the challenging Kameng Himalayas.

The new system is now fully operational, validated, and already transforming how essential supplies are transported to remote forward posts.

Operating in an unforgiving environment marked by barren cliffs, unpredictable weather, and extreme altitude, troops often face disrupted supply lines for days during heavy snowfall. Traditional transport methods struggle across steep gradients and unstable surfaces, making the delivery of mission-critical stores a constant challenge.

Responding to this operational necessity, the Gajraj Corps has conceptualised, engineered, and deployed the high-altitude mono rail as a reliable lifeline. Capable of carrying over 300 kg of load in a single run, it ensures uninterrupted movement of essential supplies such as ammunition, rations, fuel, engineering equipment, and other heavy or difficult-to-transport items.

The system is designed to operate day or night, with or without escort, and remains functional irrespective of weather conditions, including hail or storms.
