A Pakistani woman has sought the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that her husband is planning for a second marriage in Delhi. In a video, she said her husband abandoned her in Karachi and was preparing for another wedding in the national capital in India, reports said.
Identified as Nikita Nagdev, the woman released a video appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking justice and drawing attention from social and legal groups in both countries. She claimed of marrying one Vikram Nagdev, a man of Pakistani origin residing in Indore.
She said he was on a long-term visa, and on 26 January 2020 in Karachi, married her on Hindu customs.
The ‘turning’ point
Nikita said a month later in Feb 2020, Vikram brought her to India. In the next few months, she alleged that Vikram abandoned her at the Attari border saying there was some issue with visa. Nikita said she was forcibly sent back to Pakistan. Since then, she alleged, Vikram has made no effort to bring her back, reported India Today.
“I kept requesting him to call me to India, but he refused every time,” Nikita said in the video. She added, “If justice is not served today, women will lose faith in the system. Many girls face physical and mental abuse in their marital homes. I urge everyone to stand with me.”
Reports said the woman faced worrisome treatment right after he wedding, adding that the behaviour of her n-laws completely changed.
Nikita discovers husband’s affair
Nikita said she later found out about her husband’s affair with one of her relatives. When she raised the matter with her father-in-law, he denied the same, the report mentioned.
Then Covid-19 came, During the lockdown, Nikita said Vikram forced her to return to Pakistan and has since refused to allow her entry back into India. “Every woman deserves justice in India,” Nikita asserted.
She has also filed a written complaint on January 27, 2025. The case was first taken up by the Sindhi Panch Mediation and Legal Counsel Centre, authorised by the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Later, notices were sent to Vikram and his alleged fiance, and a hearing was conducted.
The mediation centre in its report said the efforts failed, adding that since neither spouse is an Indian citizen, the matter falls under Pakistan’s jurisdiction and recommended that Vikram be deported to Pakistan.
