The death toll in the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district has risen to two after a second migrant worker succumbed to his injuries. The worker had been undergoing treatment after being injured in the attack.

According to the police, the attack took place in the Kellam area of Kulgam when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the workers.

The deceased has been identified as Bupinder Kumar. Another worker, Deepak, passed away earlier.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Police sources said the victims were working at a brick kiln in Kellam when they came under attack. The assailants fled the spot after carrying out the shooting.

Security forces have rushed to the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the attack and spoke to Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat as well as other senior security officials. He directed security forces to intensify anti-terror operations and ensure the terrorists involved are neutralised.

“J&K Police and Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to bring the perpetrators to justice. Another injured labourer from Chhattisgarh has been rushed to the hospital for urgent medical care. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family, and I am praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. J&K administration and the entire nation stand with the families,” LG Sinha posted on X.
