An Air India flight from Bhopal to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur on Sunday, September 13, after a technical issue was reported. The flight, AI1886, landed safely at Jaipur International Airport. The aircraft is now undergoing technical checks.
Flight diverted after technical issue
Flight AI1886 took off from Bhopal at around 8:47 AM on Sunday. It was scheduled to reach Delhi at around 9:55 AM. The flight was diverted to Jaipur after a technical issue was reported with the aircraft. Air India said the diversion was carried out as per established procedures. The aircraft landed safely at Jaipur and is being checked in line with the airline's safety standards.
Passengers being assisted
Air India said its ground team at Jaipur is providing immediate assistance and support to passengers. The airline is making efforts to fly the passengers to Delhi at the earliest.
Air India issues statement
In a statement, Air India said the safety of its passengers and crew remains its top priority. The airline apologised for the inconvenience caused by the unexpected situation.
"Every effort is being made to fly the passengers to their destination at the earliest," the airline said.
The technical inspection of the aircraft is currently underway at Jaipur airport.
Air India faced flight disruptions earlier this month
The latest incident comes days after Air India faced major flight disruptions in the United Kingdom. On September 9, Air India said several flights to and from the UK were affected by a technical fault at NATS, the UK's air traffic control provider. The disruption affected operations at major airports, including London Heathrow.
Several Air India flights were delayed, diverted or cancelled.
Earlier Air India incident under investigation
Another Air India incident was reported on August 4, 2026. Air India flight AI-2379, operating from Phuket to Delhi, faced a serious technical issue during the flight. The aircraft was an Airbus A320-251N. It was carrying 145 people, including 137 passengers, six cabin crew members and two pilots.
According to the preliminary report by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), the aircraft was flying at around 36,000 feet when it lost hydraulic pressure.
The aircraft has three hydraulic systems known as Green, Blue and Yellow.
The Green system first lost pressure. The Blue and Yellow systems were also affected within seconds.
The hydraulic issue caused the autopilot to disconnect. Warning alerts were also triggered in the cockpit.
The aircraft moved up and down suddenly before the hydraulic systems recovered one after another.
The pilots later regained control of the aircraft and continued the flight to Delhi.
24 People Injured in August Incident
The seat-belt signs had been switched off during the flight. Several passengers and crew members were thrown around inside the cabin during the sudden aircraft movement.
The aircraft later landed safely at Delhi airport. Medical teams treated 24 people after landing. This included 20 passengers and four cabin crew members. Twenty people suffered minor injuries and were discharged. Four people suffered serious injuries and were admitted to hospital.
The incident also caused damage inside the aircraft. Some overhead storage bins, ceiling panels, handrails, emergency exit handles and crew seats were damaged.
