Ottawa/IBNS, Oct. 21 -- The screening of Tamil superstar Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2, which has grossed over Rs. 540 crore worldwide, has been halted in Canada due to technical issues involving the film's distributors.
Canadian exhibitor York Cinemas suspended screenings of the film effective October 21, citing unresolved issues with North American distributors Shloka Entertainments and Prathyangira Cinemas.
In an official statement, York Cinemas described the situation as beyond its control, saying it had fulfilled all its financial obligations but had not received the necessary authorization to continue screening the film.
The exhibitor said it had made every effort to resolve the matter and resume screenings but had been unable to obtain the necessary authorization.
"We want our patrons to know that York Cinemas has made every effort to resolve this matter and continue the screenings, but unfortunately, the necessary authorization has not been received," it said.
Jailer 2 is the sequel to Rajinikanth's 2023 blockbuster Jailer. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, the film sees Rajinikanth reprise his role as former jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.
The sequel expands the franchise's criminal underworld storyline while introducing new characters.
The film was released in theatres on October 15, 2026, and has reportedly grossed over Rs. 540 crore worldwide.
