An IIT graduate’s post seeking a job and temporary shelter has caught attention online after they claimed their father had kicked them out of the house, leaving them with money for just two to three days. The graduate is now seeking immediate employment, accommodation and a chance to become financially independent.

The post was shared by a user on the subreddit r/FresherTechJobsIndia under the title, “Does anyone need a live in maid? IIT graduate looking for a job + temporary shelter in Hyderabad, willing to start immediately”.

In the post, the graduate described the situation as far from the career beginning they had imagined after completing their education at an IIT. According to the post, the individual said they had “very limited cash left” and realistically had enough money for only “2-3 days”. They added that if they could not find an opportunity soon, they were considering travelling to Hyderabad and trying to find a way forward there.

The graduate also expressed concern about being left without accommodation, writing that they were trying hard not to make “living at a bus stand” their first post-graduation accommodation.

The individual said that they graduated with a dual degree in Mechanical Engineering and a specialisation in Manufacturing Science & Engineering. Despite the immediate financial difficulties, they said they were willing to consider a wide range of roles rather than wait for an ideal opportunity.

Their areas of expertise, according to the post, include manufacturing, operations and industrial engineering, data, business and operations analytics, CAD, CAE, FEA, research, technical work and technical writing.

They also mentioned experience with Excel, analytical problem-solving and documentation, while saying they were currently learning Python, Pandas and SQL to move towards analytics roles.

The graduate also highlighted previous internship and project experience in aerospace manufacturing. They said their work involved identifying machining bottlenecks, process optimisation, capacity planning, fixtures and tooling, and reducing manufacturing lead times. Their academic and project experience reportedly included FEA, CAD, manufacturing systems and ESG/BRSR analytics.

However, the graduate made it clear that finding an immediate source of income was the priority. “I am NOT looking for a dream job right now. I need a foot in the door,” they wrote, adding that they were willing to learn, relocate and start immediately.

The post invited leads for engineering, analyst, operations, manufacturing, research, technical support and technical writing roles. The graduate specifically mentioned Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Pune, but said they were open to opportunities anywhere in India. They also requested information about safe and affordable temporary accommodation in Hyderabad.

The post quickly drew attention from other Reddit users, with several commenters questioning how graduates from premier institutes were facing difficulties finding employment.

“Bro how r IITians not getting jobs n all?” said one user.

“I am also dual degree graduate from IIT and need bai work. Refer me if u get the job 🥀 Edit: I am a graduate in Metallurgical Engineering and Masters in Material Science from IIT. I have two Machines Learning Research Internships. And I have also published research papers on machine learning, chaos dynamics and process control.

I have projects on Agentoc ai, Computer vision and machine learning. I am willing to join as any AI/ML Engineer or Intern roles. I also have strong research background for any research roles if available. Please give me a shot 🥲. And i know I am pretty educated for a Bai/Maid,” said another.

“Join a coaching or tution center, live with a friend for a month. With your credentials, you can join a teaching institution or a school even, it will get you through your monthly expenses. In the meantime, reach out to your alumni network, there are lot of startups in Hyderabad for manufacturing or renewal energy, see if you are successful there,” said a third user.

Others offered to help directly after seeing the post. “After seeing some comments, im not sure if this is a joke. But if this is a genuine concern then pls dm me with your CV and other details. Here to help,” said a fourth.

Another Reddit user suggested approaching academic contacts for immediate opportunities, saying, “Not sure if this is a serious post but if it is, try reaching out to profs and become a project assistant.”

The discussion also expanded into broader concerns about employment among highly qualified graduates. “Agreed, even IIT graduates are struggling to get jobs, even they are also getting laid off without any notices, etc,” said another user.
