The IPL 2025 is all set to take place, and before that the mega auction returns for the first time since IPL 2022. All eyes will definitely will be on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and what changes will take place there. The biggest question will always be regarding MS Dhoni and whether he will continue playing as the next season comes into play. He had already given up his captaincy during the previous season, with Ruturaj Gaikwad taking the mantle. We might see quite a few changes in the CSK camp next season.
The biggest possibility is that MS Dhoni will finally retire from the IPL after years of speculation. There have been several reports that Dhoni might be retained by CSK with the re-introduction of the rule that declares a player retired for five years an uncapped player. However, contrary to reports, Dhoni might likely call it a day.
What CSK need is definitely a new wicketkeeper-batter, especially if MS Dhoni hangs up his boots. The best possible replacement that CSK might find in the IPL 2025 auction is none other than Rishabh Pant. He perfectly fills in the the boots of a star Indian wicketkeeper-batter. There have been reports that Rishabh Pant might be released by Delhi Capitals, and he also might not be happy with the franchise, especially after the departure of Ricky Ponting as the head coach. Pant was known to be extremely close to Ponting.
If Rishabh Pant does come in place of MS Dhoni, CSK might also think of a change in captaincy. Ruturaj Gaikwad was made the captain during IPL 2024 season, but he could not perform upto expectations as they failed to reach the playoffs for just the third time in history. If they acquire Rishabh Pant, then he might not accept being anything other than the captain, as he would leave his leadership role at the Delhi Capitals.
