Jammu Kashmir News Live: The Indian Army on Monday night reported unprovoked small-arms firing by Pakistani troops from across the Line of Control (LoC) in multiple sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a proportionate response from Indian forces.
According to official sources, the firing occurred during the intervening night of May 5 and May 6 and targeted areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor.
"This was unprovoked small-arms fire initiated from across the LoC. Indian troops responded in a proportionate manner," the Army stated.
An ANI report states that security has been tightened in Poonch sector and security forces are conducting vehicle checks around the area.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) held closed-door consultations on Monday to discuss the worsening security situation between India and Pakistan. Requested by Pakistan, a non-permanent member of the 15-nation Council, the 90-minute meeting ended without a formal statement.
