Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and emphasised that the perpetrators of the "heinous" Pahalgam terror attack should be brought to justice, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Monday.
Putin condoled the deaths of the April 22 Pahalgam massacre and expressed full support to India in its fight against terrorism, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
"President Putin @KremlinRussia_E called PM @narendramodi and strongly condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam, India. He conveyed deepest condolences on the loss of innocent lives and expressed full support to India in the fight against terrorism. He emphasised that the perpetrators of the heinous attack and their supporters must be brought to justice," Jaiswal said in a statement on X.
Both leaders reiterated their commitment to further deepen the special and privileged strategic partnership between both countries.
The Prime Minister conveyed greetings to President Putin on the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Russia's Victory Day and invited him for the annual summit to be held in India later in the year, Jaiswal said.
PM Modi was invited by Russia to attend the Victory Day to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Germany in World War II. However, he will not visit Russia in light of the security situation following the Pahalgam attack.
