  Maharashtra reports 9 cases of JN.1 Covid-19 variant A total of 69 cases of the  JN.1 Covid-19  variant have been reported in India as of December 25th. The distribution of these cases spans multiple states, with Karnataka leading at 34 cases, followed by  Maharashtra  with 9 cases, Goa with 14 cases, Kerala with 6 cases, Tamil Nadu with 4 cases, and Telangana with 2 cases. The emergence of the JN.1 variant has raised concerns among health authorities, prompting increased monitoring and preventive measures. Karnataka, in particular, has reported a significant number of cases, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance in the region. With the addition of six more cases, the number of infections of the new variant reported in the country have risen to 69. Most of these patients are currently in home isolation and there was no increase in hospitalisation rates. The centre will also keep an eagle eye on the expanding Chinese naval activities in the IOR.  Sources in the government establishment told Asianet Newsable said that the discussions are at an advanced stage and "we are expecting the final contract would be signed in a couple of months for formation of NMDAC".  The NMDAC will bring 15 departments and organisations across seven ministries under one roof, the sources said. One death has been reported in Kerala. There are a total of 4,170 active cases, as per the data provided by Union Health Ministry on Tuesday morning.
